Research objectives

  • A better understanding of the product’s specifics by exploring the reasons for joy and frustration when you own a plant.

  • Insights about the methods people use to understand the needs of plants and the actions are taken to keep them healthy.

Main questions

  • What are the problems that plant owners face?

  • What activities are perceived as difficult and way?

  • How users manage their plant care tasks?

Methodologies

  • Semi-structured interviews

  • Persona

Participants

  • Interviews: 12 participants (8 plant owners, 2 people who do not have plants, 2 experts).

  • Demography: male/ female mix, aged between 26 and 54 years.

  • Journey map

  • User story

What people were feeling about the topic?

I conducted a small online survey to figure out what people struggle with the most.

With the help of Typeform, I used the “logic jumps” to do a personalized survey.

What type of features and functionalities the users would need in a plant-tracking app?

Who is the User Persona?

To help establish empathy I created two user personas

  • Mario had previously a negative experience owning plants

  • Lily is almost an expert.

As the project was short, I choose Mario as a key persona as he has the most needs to address.

Before and after he buys a plant

With Mario’s Persona in mind, I created an "Elena's style journey map" by integrating a storyboard in order to visualize the process a user goes through.
